Trio of grants awarded by SafeDeposits Scotland Charitable Trust

The Trustees of the SafeDeposits Scotland Charitable Trust met on 12th December to consider the latest round of funding applications submitted to the Trust. Having reviewed and discussed the applications, the Trustees were pleased to award grants to three initiatives, each meeting the aim of advancing education in relation to best practice, legal rights and obligations in private rented housing.

Under One Roof is Scotland’s only charity dedicated to providing free and impartial information to the more than half a million tenement flat owners, and housing professionals, on issues related to tenement maintenance, common repair management and retrofit. A grant was awarded to Under One Roof to deliver training for landlords and letting agents, specifically through the appointment of a new Education and Training Officer.

The second grant was awarded to the Strathclyde Law School at the University of Strathclyde. This grant will be used to fund tuition fees for a PhD student to carry out a three-year project relating to the Scottish private rented sector.

Positive Action in Housing is a Scottish homelessness and human rights charity dedicated to supporting people from refugee and immigrant communities in rebuilding their lives. The charity was awarded a grant to help sustain and expand its Migrants Rights Project, assisting both tenants, primarily Romanian Roma people in Glasgow’s Govanhill area, and landlords in fulfilling their obligations.
