The SafeDeposits Scotland Charitable Trust, the grant-giving charity funded by not-for-profit tenancy deposit protection scheme SafeDeposits Scotland, has received approval from the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) to make changes to its constitution that enable it to support a broader scope of initiatives.
Established in 2012, The Trust has awarded over £1.3 million in grants to projects with the key aims of: Advancing education, particularly in relation to best practice in the management of private rented housing; and to legal rights and obligations which are of particular relevance to those who are involved in the provision or management of private rented sector housing or who hold tenancies within the private rented housing sector; Advancing conflict resolution through promoting the use of alternative dispute resolution processes for the more efficient resolution of disputes between landlords and tenants within the private rented housing sector.
With the private rented sector facing new challenges, these aims have been extended to include two additional purposes, namely: The relief of those in need by supporting other charities or organisations in overcoming barriers for individuals to access and sustain good quality, decent, safe compliant and energy efficient housing in the private rented sector; The relief of those in need through promoting, undertaking and supporting research into factors that contribute to hardship and disadvantage in the private rented sector and the most appropriate ways to mitigate these and to publish the useful results.
The Trust is currently inviting applications, with the next application deadline of Thursday 22nd May. For further information about the SafeDeposits Scotland Charitable Trust, including application form and bid guidance, visit www.safedepositsscotlandtrust.com
